Experimental Study on Failure Mechanism and Mode of Fly-Ash Dam Slope Triggered by Rainfall Infiltration

The fly-ash dam is used to store the fly ash discharged from thermal power plant. A a special slope built with ash, and rainfall infiltration an important reason induce landslide of this kind slope. In paper, laboratory tests different ratios initial seepage fields under were carried out, aimed at studying failure mechanism, mode, triggering influence factors for instability infiltration. results show that: (I) Three mechanisms found in tests: sliding failure, runoff erosion, flow-slide failure. Due low density erosion more likely occur rainfall. Differently clay slope, flow slide mechanism (II) Local damages caused by are (III) modes observed test: overall retrogressive multi-stage local sliding, gradual (caused combined action slide). (IV) ratio has on mode. With decrease ratio, mode evolves greater obvious characteristics; lower rate, damage. existence internal field intensifies occurrence slide.
